    Update 4:
    8/11/2005

Nothing in life can be easy right.

The Doctor called about an hour ago, Shayla was still in surgery unconscious. Said that the cartilage in Shaylas neck is so abnormally small that they cannot do the tie back, the sutures just fall out. They tried a couple times and trying agian is just pointless. You can only try so many times right.

She suggested proceding with the permanent tracheostomy? tracheotomy?. Said that Shaylas case is so severe that she and another surgeon on staff feels that it should be done rather than left alone. Were very unclear about what the future will now hold. The Doctor said its really hard to say how a cat will react to the tracheotomy since shes not seen many felines who have had to the procedure. She said it was hard to say some cats just dont react well to it, really depends upon the cat. She added several dogs who have all come out okay and resiliant. Were remaining hopeful, this said after I burst into tears for the last hour and hyperventilated. But were remaining hopeful that she will bounce back to her lovable happy go lucky self after she adjusts to breathing this new way, just as she seemed to do when the problem first started. All we can do is hope for now.

They of course did not mention anything as far as price but seeing as they have essentially done a tie back and are doing the tracheotomy on top, Im sure the 2k max just went up to 2500. Ill be surprised if they still stick with the original quote of 1400-2000 at this point anyway.

Well she concluded it would be about an hour to do the procedure and she would call us back, will update again when I hear something. May be later or tomorrow in the event we can visit this evening during the visiting hours.
