Update 3: 8/10/2005
Well we got some good news if you can call it that today. And that news was, the surgeon said she thinks the tie back procedure will do the trick over the hole in the neck (tracheotomy). Upon a second exam and close inspection Shayla has Laryngeal paralysis with slight Laryngeal collapse to the left side. Instead of one or the other shes got both. Usually the tie back procedure fixes paralysis but with collapse nothing but a permanent hole in the neck to breath from will fix it. The surgeon was pretty confident doing the tie back would help Shayla out since the right side is in tact.
She also assured us that the trac wash done a few months back would probably not have any effect on her condition. And typically these things are from the cartilage and tissue just not being formed enough at a young age.
I will be driving back up to Charlotte tomorrow morning at 6am to take her in for the surgery. They said she may stay only 2 days but could stay longer depending on her condition. I assume same as a human who goes under the knife, ya stay as long as ya need. The only real sad thing here is the 2 folds of skin that would normally be closed will now have one side open leaving her at a bigger risk of pneumonia. But I am counting my blessings that I wont have to fight her sister off her cause shes laying on her neck.
The vet sadly was still unable to give us an accurate price. If everything goes well and normal it will be around 1400, but from what she said I think 2k will be the max. Or for the love of all that is holy I hope thats the max.
