    Update 10:
    8/13/2005

We went to the 7pm visiting and they told us just 30 minutes prior she freaked out thinking she couldnt breath due to a mucus plug. Which they cleaned up, but just in case and to help comfort her put her back in the incubator with the oxygen. So we were brought to the back where all the animals were to visit her.

She was more than responsive when she saw us. She seemed to be almost like her normal self, I say this because she was not only head butting us but head butting surrounding objects for love and attention. The tech who has been watching over her said shes not seen her act like she was with us. And was thrilled to see how responsive and lovable she was being. The Tech couldnt help but laugh saying shes had cats who liked to head butt but not quiet like Shayla was. Shayla is very forceful when she bumps you for love and affection. She managed to bop me square in my eyes hard enough to bring tears to my eyes, hard to believe such a little thing can have that much force!

Saw her nose twitching this time which gave me some relief. The Tech said she should be smelling fine and normal, however she is unsure as well if Shayla will or wont have a voice. So that we will have to wait and see I guess a little longer. Being she is a talker, im sure she will find a way to yell at the ghosts that live in the bathrooms.

She sadly still was not eating much, they gave her an appetite inducer trying to help that out. She licked up some of the juice from a can of Fancy Feast, and ate one whole Temptations cat treat. Im confident once shes at home she will eat more normal.

While we were there, she was ducking in and out of a towel she was using as a hide out, climbing to the edge of the incubator for love, stretching her head up to head butt our cheek or head or the top of the incubator for that matter. She was kneeding her paws, well one was pretty wrapped up from a IV/Cath but she was trying to kneed with it regardless. She was licking and nibbling at us and being all kinds of affectionate. She even raised her butt for some fanny scratching, rubbing her chin on the ice pack in the incubator and the edges just like she would at home. It was reassuring to say the least.

She had a bit of a fit where I think she paniced, maybe from more mucus or other debris, like she was trying to cough something up, or clear her throat or something. Seemed like 30 minutes she was laying there pitifully neck stretched out, tongue poking out making strange coughing like noises. But finally she seemed to clear whatever the problem was. The Tech said that shes done that a few times, and she is unsure why. We think its just a matter of getting use to the oxygen coming in from a new place.

After the fit she seemed extremely wore out, eyes barely open and laying back just so beat looking so we decided we best go and let her relax. The Tech closed up the incubator and as we took a look back 2 noiseless meows came forth :( It was sad as hell. As we walked about she lifted her head and watched us walk away. Sad :( Very sad. But it was good to know she was at least that responsive and coherent.

We will be going up tomorrow around noon for a early visit and hopefully get to bring her home. We will probably just stay in the Charlotte area till the 7pm visiting hours start and see her then also if we do not get to take her home.

In the meantime I need to find a really good humidifier since the Surgeon told us we would need to have one for her recovery. Or we could drag her in the bathroom with us during showers, but that seems extremly mean to make her suffer through being locked in a room, so we would rather find a good one that can support the whole apartment (and house when we do sell our house in Charlotte so we can build here in Greenville). If any one following has suggestions for good reliable humidifier's please do email me or post in the comments section. Thxs a bundle.
