    Diagnosis:
    Bilateral laryngeal paralysis, left laryngeal collapse


    History: Shayla is a 4-year old female spayed DLH who presented for a respiratory difficulty. She was evaluated by Dr. Jaeger in May 2005. At the time laryngeal examination revealed bilateral laryngeal paralysis with suspicion of laryngeal collapse. Dr. Jaeger recommended surgical evaluation. Since May Shayla has had progressive increased inspiratory dyspnea.

    Physical Exam Findings: BW - 4.85 kg, T - 101 F, P - 196 bpm, R - 40 bpm.
    Significant inspiratory stridor with referred upper airway noise on thoracic auscultation. Lungs sound clear.

    Diagnostics: Laryngeal examination: bilateral laryngeal paralysis with complete collapse of the left larynx.
    Pre-operative anesthetic panel: within normal limits.
    Thoracic radiographs: no evidence of aspiration pneumonia.

    Procedure: A laryngeal tie-back was attempted but failed due to the friability of the cartilage. A permanent tracheostomy was performed.
